Live challenge 02 · University of East London × Wazoku Innocentive
What should the University of East London sound like?
Create a distinctive sonic identity that expresses UEL’s character, diversity and future-facing confidence across physical, digital and ceremonial experiences.
£1,000 AWARD · CLOSING 1 NOVEMBER 2026 · UEL-AFFILIATED SOLVERS
The opportunity
A university is heard as well as seen.
A strong sonic identity is more than a short logo sound. It is a recognisable system that can adapt to film, social media, events, graduation, learning environments and public communications without losing its character.
The challenge asks UEL-affiliated solvers to translate the University’s identity into sound: memorable enough to be recognised, flexible enough to be used repeatedly and original enough to belong unmistakably to East London.
Three questions for
a compelling submission.
Is it UEL?
Does the concept arise from the University’s place, people, energy and ambitions rather than generic institutional music?
Is it a system?
Can a central sonic idea adapt coherently across short, long, formal, celebratory, physical and digital contexts?
Will it endure?
Is it distinctive, usable and sufficiently flexible to remain valuable beyond a single campaign or musical fashion?
Develop the thinking behind the sound.
Use Innovation for Impact to research the audience, define the value proposition, test creative directions and present a well-evidenced solution—not merely an attractive audio file.
